One of my favorite memories of growing was Saturday Donuts. My father (who is a doctor, ironically) always treated us with donuts on Saturday. He will run and take them from the local bakery on Saturday morning, and until my sisters and I made my way up the snack (afternoon or more), our donuts were waiting for us at the counter.

Not just donuts, you remember. This tradition was so systematic that my father would come to our rooms on Friday night and take our "donut order" the next morning. We can choose anything about glare, chocolate, cake, bismarck (blueberries or raspberries), apple fritters, and anything else you want from a bakery. I think I once ordered a bagel too. Thrust at once.

There are different memories of learning about the way to make the donut fully raised in the microwave, so that the chocolate was just starting to run the sides down a bit, and the dough was fluffy and soft and wonderful.

I miss the memories of tears on the burglary donuts. I still believe that the first bird should get the worm, even if it was your sister's Bismarck.

Making donuts looks a little scary, although I have made my own mini donuts before using this lovely little Doughnuts pan.

But I was bound and determined to make my real donuts this day. And when I saw this recipe for sweet potato donuts ... well, let's just say that I've bookmark it for several months.

Making my own donuts (real fried type) was a bit more than expected. There are three steps essentially for the process, and I am a girl of one stage. But I got stuck with it and we ended up with a big disturbance in the kitchen and these beautiful, delicious Doughnuts.

Overview:

These sweet potato donuts are made entirely of scratches - this is a perfect way to sip some sweet potatoes in your favorite sweet breakfast!

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 Tbsp instant yeast
  • 1 egg + 1 yolk
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup milk, lukewarm
  • sweet potato puree (from about one medium sweet potato)
  • 6 tbs. butter, melted
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 5 1/2 cups flour
Steps:
  1. Mix all the ingredients except the flour. Whiskey until smooth
  2. Add flour and knead the dough for 10 minutes.
  3. Place in a greased, covered bowl and allow to grow for approximately one hour.
  4. Pour the dough into 1/2 inch thick and cut the donuts.
  5. Place cut donuts and Doughnuts holes on a greased plate. Allow to increase in the semi-hot place until the cover and size are doubled (about 30 minutes).
  6. Heat oil for medium heat (about 350 degrees). Fry each and every minute for each Doughnuts until it is cooked. Place on a plate with paper towels for drain.
  7. Dip in the mirror and allow cooling on cold racks.
NOTE:

For glass, I used 3/4 cup cream, 2 Tbs. The butter, and approximately 1 1/2 cup sugar melted together.
